Saint Patrick (Maewyn Succat) was born in Roman Britain (Wales) somewhere between 385-386 AD. As a teenager, he was kidnapped by Irish pirates and enslaved in Ireland for six years, before, following a miraculous conversion to Christianity, he managed to escape back to Britain.
One would imagine that after this ordeal, he would hate even the mention of Ireland and seek for nothing except revenge for what happened. But, after much time spent in prayer and studying the Scriptures, he would eventually return there, as an ordained bishop - and lead many of the pagans in Ireland to Christ - transforming the spiritual climate of the nation!
This is the power of forgiveness, through the Cross of Christ.
One thing St. Patrick is remembered for is his famous teaching on the Trinity, where he would use the three-leaved shamrock to illustrate the unity of the Godhead.
“Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.”
